Crystals can be a wonderful addition to your Reiki session! They have their own healing energy which compliments Reiki nicely.
You can place crystals right on the body. But how do you know which crystals to use? And where to put them?

Follow your intuition!
During Reiji-jo when you ask Reiki to guide you in healing your client (or self), you can also ask it to help you choose which techniques to use (eg Byosen scanning or the standard positions), which guides to call in and even which additional tools to use- like singing bowls, chanting, crystals, aromatherapy, drums, etc.
Follow Reiki's guidance to choose which crystals to use and where to place them. Different crystals have different energies and you'll likely be drawn to the one that's most needed during your session. You'll also be guided on where to put it. Or these 2 parts might come in the reverse order-- as you're giving Reiki you may feel that something more is needed and then turn to your crystals and be drawn to a specific one.
After your place the crystal, give Reiki to the area to seal its energy. Or you can sandwich the crystal with Reiki-- give Reiki to the area, place the crystal, and then send Reiki through both of them! For maximum results, crystals should be on the body for at least 20 minutes.
Some crystals that you may want in your Reiki crystal collection:
amethyst- powerful healer and protector, enhances psychic abilities and spiritual awareness, calms the mind, enhances meditation and visualization, helps relieve pain
apophyllite- creates connection between the physical and spiritual realms, promotes introspection, corrects imbalances, improves intuitive vision
black tourmaline- deflects and repels negative energy, grounds spiritual energy
bloodstone- energy cleanser, detoxifies the physical body
celestite- contacts spiritual and angelic realms, disperses worries
citrine- brings happiness and generosity, energizes and invigorates, balances yin and yang energies
clear quartz- one of the most powerful healing stones, amplifies energy, generates electromagnetic energy, cleans and enhances the subtle bodies, enhances psychic awareness
labradorite- protects, deflects unwanted energies from entering the aura, algins physical and ethereal bodies, grounds spiritual thoughts in the body
obsidian- protects, dispels negative energy, disperses unloving thoughts, improves self-control, helps let of the past
rose quartz- attunes energy to unconditional love and gently heals the heart, calms and reassures, helps release blocks
selenite- brings clarity, cleanses, clears, corrects imbalances, improves intuition
smoky quartz- detoxifying, removes negative energy, brings calmness and positivity
Choosing Your Crystals
Be careful with raw crystals- sometimes they have rough edges or particles that can irritate the skin. Also some especially round crystals are difficult to keep on the body because the body is also rounded and tends to move with the breath, etc. You may want to put a blanket or sheet over your client or self so you can use the folds of the fabric to help hold the crystals. Use the chakras as your guide
Each chakra is represented by a color so crystals that have that same color usually go with the chakra. Colors have their own frequency that we experience visually, but it also corresponds to the energy within it.
The Earth Star Chakra Crystal
Have you heard of the Earth Star and Soul Star Chakras? They can be incorporated into the crystal layout too!
The Earth Star chakra connects you to your ancestors' wisdom and bones, past lives, and the collective human consciousness- all of humankind. It's very Earthy and grounding- even more than the Root Chakra. It's located about 12 inches below your feet. It's represented by the color brown. Crystals that are good for this chakra include hematite, tourmaline, obsidian, smoky quartz, chiastolite, jet, apache tear, onyx, serpentine
If you're doing a chakra crystal layout, start by placing your Earth Star chakra crystal 12 inches below the feet or if that's not in line with the body (for example if your client is on a massage table) then place the stone between the ankles. Placing this stone first helps ensure that the client (or you!) is grounded throughout the whole session. Otherwise, it's easy to get carried away by the high vibrations of the crystals and Reiki.
The Soul Star Chakra Crystal
Then add the crystal for the Soul Star chakra (also sometimes called the higher crown chakra). This chakra is connected to everything beyond, like the crown chakra, but even higher vibrations. If the crown chakra is your crown, the soul star chakra is your halo (according to the Ultimate Guide to Chakras). It's also your connection to the stars. It's the portal to other dimensions and your connection to spiritual development in this life. It's located 12 inches above the top of the head. The Soul Star Chakra is represented by the color white. It correlates to white stones like clear quartz, selenite, rainbow moonstone, apophyllite, and diamond.
Place your after the Earth star chakra crystal. It should ideally be 12 inches above the head but if there's no room the as much above the head as possible given your restraints. By placing the Earth Star and Soul Star chakra crystals before the other chakra crystals, you are establishing clear energy channels above and below.
Also if you think about sweeping at home- you have to open the door to let the dust out before you sweep it there. Starting with these 2 end chakras is like opening the energetic doors so when stuck or old energy moves through the body, it has somewhere to go or be released.
The Personal Chakra Crystals
The personal chakras are the chakras within the physical body. Where you start next depends on what you're trying to do with the energy- if you're trying to calm and ground, work the lower chakras next. If you want to empower, uplift, and charge the energy, start with the upper chakras next. The order is less essential after the Earth Star and Soul Star.
Here is what each of these chakras represents:
The Root Chakra represents security, survival, vital energy, and trust. It relates to the Earth and the material world, stability, and the power to succeed.
The Sacral Chakra is connected to primal feelings, flow in life, sensuality, sexuality, creativity, and enthusiasm.
The Solar Plexus Chakra represents the unfolding of a person’s personality, becoming one’s true self, influence, power, strength, self-esteem, willpower, and growing through experience.
The Heart Chakra is connected to love, compassion, sharing, empathy, selflessness, devotion, kindness, and healing.
The Throat Chakra represents communication, creative self-expression, openness, expansiveness, independence, inspiration, truth, and access to the subtle levels of being.
The Third Eye Chakra is connected to intuition, development of the inner senses, mental powers, perception, manifestation, and the link between the inner and outer worlds.
The Crown Chakra represents a connection to the divine, spiritual wisdom, union with the Universal being, universal consciousness, and enlightenment.

Ending Your Crystal-Infused Reiki Session
Remove the crystals on the physical body first, then the Soul Star Chakra crystal, and finally the Earth Star chakra crystal. This will keep you as balanced and grounded as possible.
